The higher the pair, the more valuable the hand. The best hand of all is a royal flush which consists of a matching pair of the highest ranking cards. This is a very strong poker hand and is the most likely to win. However, the more pairs you have in your poker hand, the lower your chances of winning. So be careful not to get too attached to your poker hands.
